Many people don’t know that a river, the Middle River, runs right below College Hill, yet this river has been crucial to the Native Americans and European farmers who have lived here and, later, the industrial mills located on its banks.  The Middle River continues to tell an important story of our changing relationship to nature.  We invite you to explore that history here and then by foot with a walk to Whittall Mills or Middle River Park and the Blackstone Visitor’s Center.  Through such steps we can help to restore our connection to the river.  Cared for, rather than exploited, the river can be a sustaining and refreshing presence in our lives.
